The 5th Annual Sacramento Taco Festival Scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018

Sacramento’s Taco Festival is returning for its 5th run, featuring over 25 taco vendors, lucha libre, a singing contest, car show, and the crowd favorite…Northern California’s Chihuahua Beauty Contest.

MASA Guiseria joins the Taco Festival for the 3rd year.
SACRAMENTO, CA – Northern California is in for a great treat again as the first party of the summer comes back to Old North Sacramento on Saturday, June 2, 2018.  The 5th Annual Sacramento Taco Festival will be featuring a wide range of entertainment, car show, professional wrestling, and competitions that will be fun for the whole family.  And of course, it offers the widest selection of tacos in one place anywhere in Northern California.  City Council Member Eric Guerra has joined Council Member Allen Warren to be Co-Chair of the Annual event.

Once known as Rancho Del Paso, Old North Sacramento has a very rich history and was its own city up until 1964 when it was annexed by the city of Sacramento.  Del Paso Boulevard was State Historic Highway 40 that connected Sacramento with Reno, Nevada.  It was the birthplace of “Second Saturday” and at one time featured many art galleries, car dealerships, two theaters, a bowling ally, an ice rink (which is still there) and a roller rink.

“The layout of the Boulevard makes it ideal for a street festival outside of Capitol Mall,” says Mina Perez, Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Taco Festival.  “We have businesses that will have their doors open and we’ll be encouraging Festival attendees to visit them and learn who we are.”

Launched 5 years ago as a private paid event, the Sacramento Taco Festival is the largest fundraising activity of the year for the Vida de Oro Foundation, whose mission is to provide support for individuals pursuing the arts, especially those in low-income communities.  Several major sponsors have stepped up this year including Eyeglass World, Downtown Ford, Farmers Insurance, Valley Health Options, HomeAdvisor, Regional Transit, the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership, the North Sacramento Chamber of Commerce and others.

The Taco Festival, which is held on Del Paso Boulevard between West El Camino and Arden Way, will have a singing contest this year featuring the Academy Award Winning song “Remember Me” from the Disney/PIXAR move “COCO.”

“We’re really excited to have approval to use this beautiful song and believe it will bring out some of the region’s most incredible talent,” says Perez.  “We’ll be awarding two $100 cash prizes and gift baskets filled with $200 worth of items to the winners.  We have two categories, those 17 years of age and younger, and those 18 years of age and older.”

Perez adds that all entrants will be required to sing a minimum of a minute and a half of the song, and they will be judged on performance originality, voice and singing technique, stage performance, and the impact they have on the audience.

“We’re almost done identifying all the Festival components, but we are bringing back and expanding the car show,” says Perez.  “Plus we are expanding our beer garden to include a margarita garden, we’re bringing back our most popular event, the Chihuahua Beauty Contest, and of course we have the largest selection of tacos found in any one location, so bring your taste buds.”

The 5th Annual Sacramento Taco Festival is scheduled for June 2, 2018 from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm on Del Paso Boulevard in Old North Sacramento.  Tickets are $7 online (Eventbrite) and $10 at the gate.  Children 12 and under are free.  For more information or tickets visit www.sactacofest.com.
